Every year between November and December I make a large amount of home-cooked meals for families in need. It’s something my family has done for many years, and I’ve continued to do it with my children. I’m very passionate about it. As you can imagine, the amount of people in need has only increased in numbers over the years, which is very sad and in turn, presents a much bigger challenge.
I realized that this wasn’t a job that could be done solely by hand anymore, especially if I wanted to really reach that many people in need. I had recently purchased a new Cuisinart food processor but had yet to use it. Now seemed like the time for me to utilize it.
In preparation, I decided to visit KitchenWorksUSA to purchase a few extra parts. They sell actual Cuisinart DLC-7 parts. I got some blades to slice, grate and shred. I got myself a dough blade in case I had extra time to make anything else. I also purchased a replacement chopping blade since I knew I’d be putting this bad boy to serious work. I was set and ready to go.
My typical go-to meal to send to a family is a hearty casserole. Something that’s large and filling and sometimes will give them more than one meal. While easy to throw together after the fact, the preparation can be pretty labor-intensive. It’s a lot of chopping and shredding the things that go into the casserole.
As it turns out, my Cuisinart food processor was a godsend for this project. I made so many more casseroles than in previous years. I was amazed and overwhelmed with the gratitude I received. It was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had working on something like this in many years.
I managed to bake several batches of cookies with my Cuisinart food processor to send to the families alongside the casserole for an extra treat, which is something that they don’t get very often at all. They hardly get a hot meal, let alone something sweet to enjoy after the fact. It brought tears to my eyes to see the happiness on their faces, especially the children who have missed out on so much.
It inspired me to start earlier in the next year. I plan to make up many more casseroles ahead of time and freeze them, along with the cookie dough. I’m so excited to help even more families in need and I’m really looking forward to the next holiday season, as hectic as I know it will be. I’ve brought a lot of joy to a lot of people, and it’s all thanks to my Cuisinart food processor which made the process so much easier.
