I’m 35 and I just developed an intolerance to lactose. I will say I was never a crazy milk drinker or anything, but I like cheese and ice cream. So obviously this was a bummer to me. I just assumed I’d have to give it all up if I didn’t want any issues.
I discussed it with my best friend, whose boyfriend is also lactose intolerant. Of course, she was all over it, telling me that there were other ways around it and that she’d send me some recipes. One of the big questions: did I have a food processor? The answer to that was yes.
She sent me recipes for ice cream and other dairy-free frozen yogurts that I could make. This was so exciting to me. I’ve had sorbet before and liked it, but I had kind of assumed that that would be my only other option. Wow, I was wrong.
I got out my Cuisinart food processor and got to work on my first batch. It was just a basic chocolate ice cream. I was very excited. I made the batch up and put it in the freezer to try later. As I was taking my work bowl to the sink, I dropped it and cracked the bowl itself and the food pusher. Just when I get into something, I go ahead and mess it up.
I was hoping I wouldn’t need to purchase a totally brand-new food processor because it wasn’t exactly in my budget at the moment. I did some research online and found KitchenWorksUSA, where I was able to buy legitimate Cuisinart 14 cup food processor parts. I was so relieved.
The parts arrived and I was back at it again. I tried making sorbets, which were so simple. It was just the frozen fruit with some lemon or lime juice. So easy, yet so amazing.
The frozen yogurt was great too. It consists of dairy-free yogurt and dairy-free milk, possibly fruit or even chocolate if you want. Different sweeteners work better for different things, but it all depends on your preferences. It’s a lot of trial and error but eventually, you figure out what you like. I personally like honey for fruitier concoctions and maple syrup for heavier things like chocolate or peanut butter.
This whole thing was amazing to me, and it’s pretty much the only change I had to make. I seriously cut back on my cheese intake, but for me nothing can replace cheese. Luckily, my issues aren’t nearly as bad as they would be if I had milk or ice cream.
This has been a great solution for me, and I feel a lot better because of it. I’m so glad my best friend was there with some other ideas. I’m super grateful for my Cuisinart food processor and that I was able to find the parts I needed on the KitchenWorksUSA site.
